Mystery Mountain

Mystery Mountain
altered found book and found postcard, 16cm x 22cm x 25cm
2011

The book Mystery Mountain was written by Norman Watson and Edward J. King and describes an expedition to Mount Waddington in British Columbia. This mountain was dubbed "Mystery Mountain" when it was spotted by mountaineers Don and Phyllis Munday in 1925, at which time the mountain did not yet exist on a map and did not have a name.

A found postcard of a nameless mountain, which is similar in appearance to the "Mystery Mountain", was pasted face-down onto the title page of the book, rendering it visible only when the page is held up to the light. The placement of the postcard raises the question of the identity of the depicted mountain and whether it could, in fact, be the "Mystery Mountain" itself.
