Footnotes refer to a previous work of Rafalski’s (Dear Mondrian) in which coloured gels were overlaid on reproductions of Mondrian’s paintings. The remaining gels not used in that piece were photographed, in their exact arrangement on the studio table when the previous piece was finished.
