The repetition of the verticals creates a pattern throughout the picture plane.
The contrasting thicknesses of the trees creates rhythm.
Each tree is rendered painstakingly, even the trees in the distance appear sharply delineated and detailed.
The diffuse shadows falling on the snow create a contrast with these crisp trees.
Unity is created by the whites repeating in the tree bark and the snow.
The palette would be almost monochrome, if it weren’t for the skilfully integrated spill of a particularly luminous choice of blue which serves as the sky.
