In Books

Whenever you buy a book with reproductions of art, it is never faithful to the work itself. The colours of the CMYK printing process cannot reproduce the pigment properly. The size is adjusted so that all the works fit into the book's pages neatly. The work is surrounded by text, as if implying that in the text lies the key to understanding a piece.

Reproductions offer a mediated view. This is not to say that there is ever an unmediated view. Even if you stand before a piece in the museum, for your way of looking at things will already have beat you to the museum and will be waiting for you once you arrive.
