Residency in Joutsa - Day 24

A vast expanse of grey sky with the sun veiled behind clouds and a forest in the distance. Although this is the first time I am before this landscape, it is a well known place to me, from long ago- a grey empty field filled with silence in Poland during the communist time. A memory impossible to arrange into words or to hold in the mind's eye for long. It escapes each time you try to think about it and disappears. It comes and goes as it pleases, as if this memory had its own life, only summoning me when it pleases and then going away. I am not evoking the memory, it is evoking me- it is replaying me. It's similar with time - it's time who has us, not we who have time. We are here on time's watch. It encloses us, houses us, gives us substance, breath, space. It is a vast expanse of grey sky with the sun veiled behind clouds and a forest in the distance.
